KNOXVILLE,
IA (June 25-26) -- Two more World of Outlaws Series races and two more
swept podiums for the Hoosier brand. On Friday, Joey Saldana led all
20 laps in the preliminary feature for the $5,000 win. Twenty-four
cars started the race with the Hoosier brand used by the first 23 cars
to cross the finish line. While on Saturday, Craig Dollansky (photo)
was awarded the win after Mark Kinser, who finished first after
starting back in ninth place, was disqualified for being light at the
scales. The infraction handed the win to Dollansky. The first ten
drivers to cross the finish line in the 40-lap feature rode on Hoosier
tires. The pair of 1-2-3 finishes for Team Hoosier was their 30th
consecutive podium sweep of the season and their 35th win in a row
in the World of Outlaws Series.
PRELIMINARY
KNOXVILLE, IA (June 25) -- Forty-nine cars jammed the Knoxville pits
for Friday's preliminary race with 44 of them on Hoosier tires and the
remaining five drivers split (3-2) among the other two competing tire
brands. Sammy Swindell set fast time of the night with a 16.204 second
lap around the famous 1/2-mile dirt oval. He was followed by Jason
Johnson, Mark Kinser, Joey Saldana and Danny Lasoski. Twenty-nine of
the 30 fastest times in qualifying were recorded by drivers on Hoosier
tires.
Ricky Logan, Donny Schatz, Mike Reinke and Danny
Lasoski were heat race winners, while Joey Saldana and Craig Dollansky
were the two Dash winners. All five drivers captured their respective
wins on Hoosier tires.
In the 20-lap feature, all but one of the 24 starters
rode on Hoosier tires. Joey Saldana, using a 94" D12/RD15 (LR/RR)
combination, led flag-to-flag to capture the opening night win.
Saldana was followed by fourth starting Steve Kinser. The defending
series champion used the same rear tire set up as the race winner.
Kinser was followed to the line by Craig Dollansky who opted to run
the 20-lapper using a pair of D12's.
Danny Lasoski finished fourth followed by Sammy
Swindell, Donny Schatz, Tim Shaffer, Kerry Madsen, Ricky Logan and
Brian Paulus in fifth through tenth, respectively.
A-MAIN
KNOXVILLE, IA (June 26) -- A total of 50 cars were on hand Saturday
attempting to claim the $12,000 winner's prize with 45 of them mounted
on Hoosier tires and the remaining five drivers again split 3-2 among
the other two competing tire brands.
John Vandenberg was the fast qualifier with a lap of
16.281 seconds followed by Mark Kinser, Ricky Logan, Brian Paulus and
Donny Schatz. The ten fastest times in qualifying were posted by
drivers using Hoosier tires.
Jason Sides, Paul McMahan, Terry McCarl and Donny
Schatz were the four heat race winners. Joey Saldana was the Dash
winner which also kept Team Hoosier's record for the weekend perfect
going into the night's feature race.
In the 40-lap feature, 23 of the 24 starters rode on
Hoosier tires. Joey Saldana took the lead from the outset and looked
to be on his way to the win. That was until lap 34, when the
preliminary night's winner ran out of gas handing the lead over to
Craig Dollansky. Dollansky, using a 94" D12/D15 set up, led the
next five laps before ninth starting Mark Kinser made what appeared to
be the race winning pass. Kinser led the race's final two circuits and
took the checkered flag for the apparent win. That was, until he made
it to the post-race scales which found his car to be under the minimum
weight rule (1,375 lbs.).
The discovery forced officials to disqualify Kinser
and award the win (and $12,000) to Craig Dollansky who crossed the
finish line behind Kinser. Kinser was scored with a 23rd place finish.
Danny Lasoski, using a pair of D15's, finished in second place
followed by Skip Jackson. Amazingly, Jackson started last (24th) in
the field before motoring to the third place finish using a Hoosier
94" RD12/D15 combination.
Matt Moro came from 14th place to finish in fourth
place followed by Daryn Pittman, Jason Meyers, Shane Stewart, Brooke
Tatnell, Donny Schatz and Brian Paulus. All ten drivers rode on
Hoosier tires. (Sammy Swindell crossed the line in fifth but was
scored with a 24th place finish after violating the minimum weight
rule.)
Steve Kinser's lead in the World of Outlaws Series
driver standings drops to 86 points over Danny Lasoski as the series
will contest four races in five nights beginning on Tuesday, June
29th, at Joplin 66 Speedway. Currently, the top 17 drivers in the
ranking ride on Hoosier tires.
Hoosier Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager Neil Cowman
was in Iowa and attended both events. Details for this report were
provided by Hoosier's World of Outlaws Track Service Manager Dave
Campbell.
