JOPLIN,
MO (June 29) -- Altoona, Iowa's Terry McCarl had been close a couple
of times before, but Tuesday night McCarl accomplished something he
had never before achieved--winning a World of Outlaws Series A-feature
race. McCarl led all 30 laps en route to the historic win at Joplin 66
Speedway. After earning fast qualifier honors, the reigning Knoxville
Raceway champion started on the pole in the feature race. It was the
36th consecutive win in the series by drivers riding on Hoosier tires.
McCarl was followed to the line by Kraig Kinser and Donny Schatz for
the 31st consecutive 1-2-3 finish for the Hoosier brand in the series.
Twenty-seven cars posted times in qualifying with 26
of them on Hoosier tires. Terry McCarl set fast time of the event with
a lap of 13.819 seconds around the 4/10-mile clay oval. He was
followed by Danny Lasoski, Kraig Kinser, Mark Kinser and Steve
Kinser.
Brooke Tatnell won the first heat race, while Paul
McMahan and Daryn Pittman won the second and third heats. Terry McCarl
captured the win in the first Dash which earned him the right to start
the night's feature from the pole alongside Mark Kinser who won the
second Dash race.
In the 30-lap feature, all but one of the 24 starters
were members of Team Hoosier. The race began with Terry McCarl, using
a 94" RD15/D20 (LR/RR) combination, taking the lead at the drop
of the green flag. McCarl led all 30 laps en route to notching his
first A-feature win in the series. Kraig Kinser finished in second
place after starting third followed by Donny Schatz in third. Schatz
started back in sixth before claiming the final podium position. The
Hoosier brand was used by the first 23 cars to cross the finish line
leaving last place for the lone car not using Hoosiers. The 1-2-3
finish was the 31st consecutive podium sweep for Team Hoosier this
season.
Danny Lasoski finished in fourth and Steve Kinser in
fifth. The runner-up through the fifth position raced on a Hoosier
94" D15/D20 combination. Craig Dollansky, Jason Meyers, Jason
Sides, Joey Saldana and Erin Crocker finished sixth through tenth, respectively.
Tuesday's race was the start of a four-race in five
nights stretch in the series as the summer schedule heats up in the
World of Outlaws Series. The series will be back in action Thursday at
Batesville Speedway for a make-up date originally schedule back in
April.
