IN (June 28-29) -- Joey Saldana led every lap en route to winning the
preliminary feature at Knoxville Raceway on Friday, while Danny
Lasoski led the final 32 laps in the finale's 40-lap feature which
pushed Team-Hoosier's record in the Pennzoil World of Outlaws to a
phenomenal 41-4 on the season and propelled Lasoski back into a tie
with Steve Kinser for the series point lead. While Wayne Johnson broke
Tyler Walker's string of three consecutive wins by sweeping the latest
Gumout event at Wilmot Speedway in Wilmot, WI. Ironically, Johnson was
the last to win in the series before Walker put his string of three
wins together. Johnson's win also keeps Hoosier Racing Tire Corp.
undefeated in the World of Outlaws Gumout Series in 2002.
PENNZOIL WORLD OF OUTLAWS PRELIMINARY
KNOXVILLE, IA (June 28) -- A huge 50-car field posted times in
qualifying at famous Knoxville Raceway Friday evening with 39 drivers
electing to ride atop the Hoosier brand. James Chesson set fast time
of 15.188 seconds around the 1/2-mile oval. In fact, the top seven
times were posted by Hoosier-shod drivers using a pair of Hoosier's
softest tire compound option, a pair of Hoosier D10's. Steve Kinser,
Ricky Logan, Craig Dollansky, Brad Furr, Danny Lasoski and Tyler
Walker were second through seventh in qualifying.
All four preliminary heat races were won by
Hoosier-shod drivers. Joey Saldana, Kerry Madsen, Calvin Landis and
Daryn Pittman each won their respective heats using a pair of Hoosier
D10's.
Joey Saldana also won the first dash race which earned
him the right to start the 25-lap feature from the pole position.
In the 25-lap feature, 22 of the 26 race starters were
riding on Hoosier tires. Joey Saldana took the lead at the drop of the
green flag and never relinquished the lead using a pair of Hoosier
D12's. Saldana collected $5,000 for the win. All told, 13 of the top
14 drivers to cross the finish line used the Hoosier brand.
Other Hoosier-shod drivers in the top 14 were Steve
Kinser, Craig Dollansky, and Danny Lasoski, in third through fifth,
respectively--each opting to ride on the same combination as the race
winner, a pair of D12's. Finishing sixth through 14th was, Tim
Shaffer, Daryn Pittman, Terry McCarl, Don Droud, Jr., Skip Jackson,
Ricky Logan, Kerry Madsen, Mark Kinser and Brad Furr.
PENNZOIL WORLD OF OUTLAWS FINALE
KNOXVILLE, IA (June 29) -- With the top four finishers receiving
an automatic transfer into the top four starting positions in the
dash, 47 cars were left to post times in qualifying. Improving on the opening
night performance, Team-Hoosier posted the top ten times in qualifying.
Danny Lasoski had fast time of 15.425 seconds followed by James
Chesson, Daryn Pittman, Danny Wood, Randy Hannagan, P.J. Chesson,
Ricky Logan, Brad Furr, Travis Cram and Tim Shaffer in second through
tenth.
There were three Hoosier-shod heat race winners: Danny
Lasoski, Tim Shaffer and Kerry Madsen.
An accident in the only dash race relegated
Team-Hoosier to a 2-3-4-5-6-7-8 finish. Danny Lasoski, Daryn Pittman,
Danny Wood, James Chesson, Craig Dollansky, Steve Kinser and Joey
Saldana finished second through eighth, respectively.
In the 40-lap feature, Danny Lasoski using a pair of
Hoosier D12's took the race lead on lap 9, and never looked back
leading the remainder of the race to take the win and collect the
$20,000 top prize. The win also brought the #20 JD Byrider driver to
5086 points in the series standings--tying him with Steve Kinser.
Eight of the top nine finishers rode atop the Hoosier
brand in the feature race. Steve Kinser charged from seventh place to
finish third and collect $4,000. Daryn Pittman, Craig Dollansky, Ricky
Logan, Brad Furr, Joey Saldana and Mark Kinser finished fourth through
ninth on Hoosier tires. Kinser, Pittman and Dollansky each opted to
run the 40-lap race on a D12/D15 set-up.
The two wins at Knoxville extended Team-Hoosier's
domination in sprint racings elite series to 41-4 this season as the
series moves to Huset's Speedway in South Dakota this Tuesday night,
July 2nd, for a single-night show before moving on to the 3-day Duel in
the Dakotas on Thursday in West Fargo, ND.
WORLD OF OUTLAWS GUMOUT SERIES
WILMOT, WI (June 29) -- Wayne Johnson swept the latest Gumout event at
Wilmot Raceway on Saturday for his second feature win of the season.
Johnson set fast time, won his heat, his dash and led every lap of the
40-lap feature en route to collecting the $5,000 top prize.
The win also extended Team-Hoosier's record in the
World of Outlaws Gumout Series to a perfect 8-0.
