SOMERSET,
WI (July 7) -- Steve Kinser started fourth and methodically worked
through the field taking the lead for good on lap 27 of the 35-lap
feature at Cedar Lake Speedway Monday night. It was the defending
series champion's seventh win in the last eleven races contested. Yet
Kinser still finds himself trailing Danny Lasoski in the driver's
standings heading into Wednesday's battle at Powercom Park in Beaver
Dam, WI. Kinser was followed to the finish line by Donny Schatz and
Sammy Swindell--both of whom also ride on Hoosier tires. It was the
38th consecutive podium sweep for Team-Hoosier in the O'Reilly World
of Outlaws Series. In fact, the Hoosier brand was on the first 11 cars
to cross the finish line. Hoosier tires have now been used by 45 of
the 47 race winners in the series this season.
Twenty-six cars were entered in qualifying Monday
evening with 25 cars actually posting times. Of the 26 hopefuls on
hand, 23 of them rode on Hoosier tires. Danny Lasoski, using Hoosier's
softest compound (D10), set a new single lap record when his circled
the 3/8-mile dirt oval in 11.085 seconds. Lasoski was followed by
seven more Hoosier-shod drivers atop the qualifying leader board.
Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindell, John Sernett, Jason Meyers, Paul
McMahan, Kraig Kinser and Daryn Pittman were second through eighth in qualifying.
When Justin Henderson, Brian Brown and Joey Saldana
each won their respective heat races, the Hoosier brand claimed
undefeated status in all three of the 8-lap heat races that were
contested.
In Dash action, Donny Schatz won the first Dash, while
Steve Kinser was the top Hoosier-shod finisher in the final Dash. The
17-time series champion finished second in the second Dash.
In the 35-lap feature, recent high school graduate and
third starting Kraig Kinser took less than a lap to secure the top
spot using a Hoosier D12/D15 set up. Kinser commanded the race lead
until lap 8, when pole-sitter Donny Schatz (RD12/D12) moved into the
lead. Schatz led through lap 26, before giving way to Steve Kinser.
Kinser using the same compound combination as his son Kraig to lead
the race's final nine circuits to capture the win--his seventh in the
last eleven races.
After leading the race's middle stages, Donny Schatz
settled for a runner-up finish, while Sammy Swindell (D12/D12) claimed
third as the Team-Hoosier staked its claim to the top 11 spots in the
night's final race. Kraig Kinser, Danny Lasoski, Daryn Pittman, Paul
McMahan, Jason Meyers, Joey Saldana, Jason Sides and Brian Brown
finished fourth through eleventh, respectively.
The series takes just a day off before resuming action
this Wednesday at Powercom Park in Beaver Dam, WI.
Hoosier Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager Neil Cowman is
scheduled to attend the one-night show at Powercom Park to monitor
tire performance and update the members of Team-Hoosier on upcoming
product developments.
