SOMERSET,
WI (July 8) -- Sammy Swindell won his first Pennzoil World of Outlaws
A-feature race in over a year at Cedar Lake Speedway Monday night.
Swindell was the first of 12 consecutive drivers to cross the finish
line riding on Hoosier tires. This on the heals of Team-Hoosier's best
performance of the year in sprint racing's premier series. With
Hoosier tires on the top seven, top 12 and top eight in the 3-day
"Duel in the Dakotas" over the weekend, Hoosier-shod drivers
followed that up by posting another top 12 sweep at Cedar Lake
Speedway. This win now stretches Team-Hoosier's record to 46 wins in
the 50 races contested so far in 2002.
A total of 27 cars were on hand for qualifying--23 of
them on Hoosiers. Steve Kinser set a new single-lap record in circling
the 3/8-mile oval in 11.425 seconds on a pair of Hoosier D10's. Danny
Lasoski was second in qualifying at 11.490 seconds, while Daryn
Pittman was third. All three drivers compete using the Hoosier brand.
Two of the three preliminary heat races were won by
Hoosier-shod drivers. Donny Schatz won the first heat, while Randy
Hannagan captured the third heat.
Both dash races were won by drivers on Hoosier rubber.
Sammy Swindell captured the first dash with Craig Dollansky winning
the second.
In the feature, Sammy Swindell led 17 of the race's 30
laps en route to his first A-feature win since June of last year.
Swindell used a pair of Hoosier D12's in capturing the win. Mark
Kinser finished in second place also using a pair of D12's. Steve
Kinser wound up third while opting to run the 30-lap distance on a
D12/D15 combination.
All told, the first 12 drivers to cross the finish
line were drivers carried by the Hoosier brand of tires. Rounding out
the top 12 were: Craig Dollansky, fourth; Joey Saldana, fifth; Donny
Schatz, sixth; Brad Furr, seventh; Randy Hannagan, eighth; Danny
Lasoski, ninth; P.J. Chesson, tenth; Tim Shaffer, eleventh; and Don
Droud, Jr., twelfth.
The win by Swindell extends Hoosier's record to an
amazing 46-4 in Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series races during the 2002
season. This was also the 34th time Team-Hoosier finished 1-2-3 at the
end of the night.
Steve Kinser remains atop the series standings with
5582 points. Danny Lasoski commands second place at 5555 points. Craig
Dollansky (5366), Mark Kinser (5312) and Joey Saldana (5310) round out
the "all-Hoosier" top five.
The series resumes competition this Wednesday, July
10th, for a one-night show at Wisconsin's Powercom Park Raceway.
