HARTFORD,
MI (July 14) -- California's Jason Meyers won his fourth World of
Outlaws A feature race of the season last night at Hartford Speedway
Park matching the total he tallied all of last season as the series
nears the halfway point of its 100-race schedule. Meyers set fast time
in qualifying and won his Dash race which placed the 25-year-old
driver on the pole for the night's 25-lap feature. Meyers went on to
lead every lap en route to collecting his fifth overall win of the
year in the elite sprint series. Donny Schatz finished in second place
with Steve Kinser rounding out the top three. It was the 37th
consecutive 1-2-3 finish for Team Hoosier this season. Last year, the
purple tire brand compiled a streak of 50 consecutive races in which Hoosier-shod
cars finished 1-2-3 in the series. The Hoosier brand finished the 2003
season with an 88-4 record in the World of Outlaws Series and has amassed
a 42-1 mark so far this season as it seeks
its unprecedented fifth consecutive championship. Last night's race
was also attended by Hoosier Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager Neil
Cowman and Hoosier President and CEO Bob Newton.
Thirty-five cars were on hand Wednesday night at
Hartford Speedway Park's 1/2-mile oval with all but one driver opting
to compete on Hoosier tires. Jason Meyers set fast time circling the
track in 16.148 seconds. The Elite Racing Team #14 driver was followed
by Joey Saldana in second and Brett Mann in third. Brett is also
Hoosier's test driver for tire testing throughout the year driving and
maintaining the Hoosier test car. The 20 fastest times in qualifying
were recorded by drivers on Hoosier tires.
Steve Kinser, Craig Dollansky, Danny Lasoski and
Brandon Wimmer were the four heat race winners, while Jason Meyers and
Donny Schatz were the two Dash winners.
In the 25-lap feature, all 24 starters rode on Hoosier
tires. It was the 8th time all season that the Hoosier brand was the
only tire brand represented in the night's final race. Jason Meyers,
using a 94" D12/D12 (LR/RR) combination, took the lead from the
outset and never looked back winning by an estimated six car lengths
over Donny Schatz (96" D12/D12) and Steve Kinser (94"
D12/D15).
Danny Lasoski (94" D12/D15) finished in fourth
place followed by Joey Saldana, Daryn Pittman, Paul McMahan, Tim
Shaffer, Kraig Kinser and previous race winner Craig Dollansky in
tenth.
Steve Kinser remains atop the driver standings with
Danny Lasoski in second and Donny Schatz in third. Currently, the top
17 drivers in the ranking all compete on Hoosier racing tires.
The series is back in action this Friday night (July
16th) at Eldora Speedway for a two-night program culminating in
Saturday's spectacular annual Kings Royal race which was won by Steve
Kinser last year.
