SARVER,
PA (July 23) -- Lernerville Speedway regular Ed Lynch, Jr. showed why
the Pennsylvania region is the hot-bed of sprint racing after
capturing the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series Don Martin Memorial
Tuesday night and beating many of sprint racing's heavy-hitters. Lynch
led 37 of the 40 race laps en route to his first-ever A-feature win in
the series. Lynch also collected $35,000 for the historic victory. Tim
Shaffer finished in second place with Mark Kinser taking third. All
three drivers competed on Hoosier tires and marked the 40th time in 57
nights of racing this season that Team-Hoosier has swept all three
podium positions. It also was the 22nd win in a row for a Hoosier-shod
car in Pennzoil World of Outlaws competition.
Thirty-six cars were entered in qualifying on the
Lernerville Speedway 1/2-mile with 27 of them competing on Hoosier
tires. Ten of the top eleven times in qualifying were posted by
drivers on the Hoosier brand. Joey Saldana was the fastest
Hoosier-shod qualifier and second fastest overall at 12.872 seconds.
Danny Wood, Danny Lasoski, Tim Shaffer, Randy Hannagan, Ed Lynch, Jr.,
Mark Kinser, Greg Hodnett, Craig Dollansky and P.J. Chesson rounded
out positions three through eleven in qualifying.
All four heat races were won by Hoosier-shod drivers.
Sammy Swindell captured the first heat race, while Donny Schatz, Brian
Ellenberger and Steve Kinser took wins in the final three heats.
Both dash races were also won by drivers riding on the
Hoosier tire brand. Ed Lynch, Jr. won the first dash earning the right
to start on the pole for the 40-lap feature. Mark Kinser won the
second dash and would join Lynch in the front row for the feature.
The 36 car field was whittled down to 26 cars for the
40-lap feature with 20 cars on Hoosier tires. When the green flag
dropped, Mark Kinser used his high-line position to capture the early
race lead. On the third circuit, Ed Lynch, Jr., made the pass for the
lead using a Hoosier RD12/D12 left/right tire combination. Lynch would
lead all but one lap of the remaining 38 laps to capture the win--losing the lead only briefly to Tim Shaffer on lap 32.
Shaffer finished runner-up using a D10/D12 set-up, while Mark Kinser
rounded out the "all-Hoosier" top three.
Lynch's win earned the Lernerville regular $35,000 for
his first Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series A-feature win. Other top
ten finishers on Hoosier tires were: Steve Kinser (5th), Sammy
Swindell (7th), Craig Dollansky (8th), Danny Lasoski (9th), and P.J.
Chesson (10th), as 15 of the first 17 drivers to cross the finish line
rode on Hoosier tires.
The 1-2-3 Hoosier finish in the Pennzoil World of
Outlaws Series was the 40th time Team-Hoosier has accomplished this
feat in 57 nights of racing. It was also the 22nd win in a row for the
Hoosier tire brand in sprint racing's premier series.
Defending Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series Champion
Danny Lasoski retains the series points lead with 6533 points followed
by Steve Kinser with 6530--just three points out of first. Craig
Dollansky, Joey Saldana, Mark Kinser, Donny Schatz and Tim Shaffer
round out the "all-Hoosier" top seven in the series
standings.
The Outlaws will be back in action this Thursday for
three nights of racing at Pennsylvania's Williams Grove
Speedway.
