NEW EGYPT, NJ (July 29) -- P.J. Chesson led every lap
of the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series 30-lap feature at New Egypt Speedway Monday night en route to
collecting his first A-feature win in the series. What
made it even more special for the young driver was that it came in
front of his hometown crowd. After taking the checkered flag,
Chesson did a series of doughnuts in his winning sprint car and
climbed the fence in victory lane to acknowledge the cheering hometown
crowd.
Twenty-one cars were entered for qualifying on the New
Egypt 1/2-mile--19 on Hoosiers. With the track taking rubber in
qualifying, Craig Dollansky set fast time of the night with a lap of
16.359 seconds. Brad Furr was second fast followed by Johnny Herrera
who was driving for Danny Lasoski who was recovering from the injuries
he sustained in the first hot-lap session at Williams Grove Speedway
last Friday. Hoosier-shod teams posted the eight fastest times in
qualifying.
All three heat races were won by drivers using Hoosier
tires. Donny Schatz was the first heat race winner, while Fred Rahmer
and Joey Saldana won the second and third heats, respectively.
Both dash races were also won by Hoosier equipped
sprinters. P.J. Chesson was the first dash winner, while Daryn Pittman
won the second dash.
In the 30-lap feature, P.J. Chesson got the jump at
the drop of the green flag and never looked back. Chesson led all 30
laps en route to the win. Chesson used a D15/D20 rear tire compound
combination to capture the win. Finishing in second was Daryn Pittman
on a pair of Hoosier D15's. Rounding out the 44th 1-2-3 finish for the
Hoosier tire brand was Tim Shaffer. Shaffer also opted for a pair of
Hoosier D15's. The third place finish for Shaffer was also his fifth
consecutive podium finish in Outlaws competition for the Aliquippa, PA
driver.
All told, Team-Hoosier laid claim to the first 14
positions at the finish of the 30-lap race. Completing the top-14 list
of finishers were: Craig Dollansky, Randy Hannagan, Brad Furr, Johnny
Herrera, Steve Kinser, Donny Schatz, Fred Rahmer, Joey Saldana, Mark
Kinser, Danny Wood and Smokey Snellbaker in fourth through fourteenth,
respectively.
Danny Lasoski tried to race but was unable to, so per
Outlaws rules, he was awarded 75 points for his attempt. Currently,
Steve Kinser leads the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series standings with
6877 points followed by Danny Lasoski with 6733 points. Joey Saldana
(6624), Craig Dollansky (6619), Mark Kinser (6557), Donny Schatz
(6530) and Tim Shaffer (6522) round out the top seven in the
standings. All seven drivers compete on Hoosier tires.
The series resumes action Wednesday, July 31, at
Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH, where Team-Hoosier looks to complete
the month of July undefeated in the Pennzoil World of Outlaws
Series.
