HARTFORD,
OH (July 31) -- Joey Saldana continues to run strong as of late in the
Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series. The Brownsburg, Indiana driver
captured his fourth A-feature win last night at Sharon Speedway
leading every lap of the 30-lap race. Saldana also has three
preliminary wins on the season bringing his total wins to seven. After
finishing seventh in the 2001 series standings, Saldana currently sits
in third place with the season a little more than half over. The
driver of the #17 sprinter won the race using Hoosier's new RD15
compound which has won four of the last five Outlaw races since it was
introduced at the Summer Nationals at Williams Grove Speedway.
Thirty-seven cars posted times in qualifying--29 of
them on Hoosiers. Nine of the ten fastest times were run by
Hoosier-shod drivers. Joey Saldana set fast time on the 3/8-mile
Sharon Speedway oval owned by the Blaney family. Johnny Herrera was
second in qualifying while driving Danny Lasoski's Tony Stewart owned
#20 while he continues healing from his injuries.
Three of the four heat races were won by Hoosier-shod
drivers Donny Schatz, Rob Chaney and Tim Shaffer.
Both dash races were also won by drivers using the
Hoosier brand. Joey Saldana won the first dash which placed him on the
pole for the feature, while Brad Furr captured the win in the second
dash and would join Saldana in the front row.
In the 30-lap feature, Joey Saldana, using a D12/RD15
combination, jumped into the lead and never looked back leading all 30
laps of the race. Randy Hannagan finished runner-up on a Hoosier
RD12/D12 set-up. Brad Furr (D12/D15), Tim Shaffer (RD12/D12), and Ed
Lynch, Jr. (D12/D15) rounded out the "all-Hoosier" top five.
Other Hoosier-shod drivers in the top ten were: Dale
Blaney (7th), Daryn Pittman (8th), Danny Wood (9th), and Paul McMahan
(10th).
The 1-2-3 Hoosier finish was the 45th of the season
and the 27th consecutive win for Team-Hoosier in Pennzoil World of
Outlaws competition.
Hoosier Open Wheel Dirt Product manager Neil Cowman
commented before departing for Eldora, "The new RD15 compound has
really had an impact winning four of the last five Outlaw races."
Cowman added, "I'm really looking forward to seeing the RD15
under race conditions at Eldora where we will have plenty of tires on
hand for all the competitors who might want to use the new
compound."
The Outlaws Series resumes racing this Friday, August
2nd, at Eldora Speedway where the "Night Before The Big One"
will be contested. On Saturday, "The Big One" will be
contested at Eldora in a non-Outlaws sanctioned event.
