PLYMOUTH,
WI (July 31) -- Brownsburg, Indiana's Joey Saldana turned in a near
perfect night of racing Saturday night culminating in his flag-to-flag
win in the World of Outlaws Series 40-lap feature at Wisconsin's
Sheboygan County Fair Speedway. Saldana's win was also a milestone for
Team Hoosier because it broke last year's record of 50 consecutive
wins in the series as the Hoosier brand seeks its fifth consecutive
championship in the World of Outlaws Series. Saldana was followed to
the line by Steve Kinser and Danny Lasoski. Ironically, the last
feature race Saldana won this year the finish was exactly the same
with Kinser and Lasoski following the #2 Valcano car to the line at
Red River Valley Speedway in North Dakota.
A total of 55 cars were in the pits Saturday night at
Sheboygan's 3/8-mile oval with 42 of them riding on Hoosier tires and
the remaining 13 teams opting to use the one other competing tire
brand on hand. Joey Saldana, using Hoosier's softest compound (D10),
set a new track record in qualifying circling the track in 11.326
seconds. He was followed by Kraig Kinser, Brian Paulus, Danny Lasoski
and Donny Schatz. All told, the Hoosier brand was used by the nine
fastest qualifiers including 24 of the 27 fastest times.
In heat race action, Kurt Davis, Paul McMahan and
Donny Schatz were the three Hoosier-shod heat race winners, while Joey
Saldana, who finished second in his heat race, and Kraig Kinser were
the two Dash winners. Saldana and Kinser, as a result, started the
feature on the front row.
In the night's feature race, 21 of the 24 starters
rode atop the Hoosier brand. Joey Saldana took the lead from the drop
of the green flag using a 94" RD12/D12 (LR/RR) combination.
Saldana led the entire 40-lap distance to capture his fifth overall
win of the season including three A-Main wins. Steve Kinser, who
started fourth, finished in second place using a 94" D12/D15 set
up. Kinser was followed to the line by Danny Lasoski in third place.
Lasoski, who started sixth, used a 92" RD12/D12 combination.
Donny Schatz finished in fourth place followed by Daryn Pittman in
fifth. Pittman started ninth en route to his top-five
finish.
Other top ten finishers on Hoosier tires included
Craig Dollansky, Paul McMahan, Erin Crocker and Jason Sides in seventh
through tenth, respectively.
The World of Outlaws Series is back in action this
Friday, August 6th, for a one-night show at Eldora Speedway's 1/2-mile
facility where Hoosier Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager Neil Cowman is
expected to be in attendance.
