KNOXVILLE,
IA (August 10) -- Steve Kinser pocketed $125,000 for winning the 42nd
annual Knoxville Nationals this past Saturday. It was the 12th time
'The King of the Outlaws' has captured the annual event many view as
the Daytona 500 of sprint racing. Kinser led every lap of the 30-lap
feature en route to the historic win. The race drew 117 of the world's
best sprint racers to the famous 1/2-mile oval with 89 drivers opting
to ride on Hoosier tires. The 4-day event culminated in Saturday's
A-feature which promised $386,500 in prize money. When the 30-lap race
was finished, a total of $371,500 was collected by members of
Team-Hoosier.
The starting line-up for the 30-lap feature was set
via points accumulated during previous night's of racing. Danny
Lasoski started on the pole with Steve Kinser alongside. Kinser got
the jump at the green flag using momentum from his high line starting
position. Kinser successfully defended his leader status several times
before taking the $125,000 checkered flag. Donny Schatz, who started
seventh, took runner-up honors and collected $62,500. Craig Dollansky
took third place and pocketed $32,500.
The top five finishers all used a pair of Hoosier
D12's for the 30-lap feature. The first eight drivers to cross the
finish line rode on Hoosier tires. Rounding out the top eight sweep
for Team-Hoosier were: Danny Lasoski (4th-$22,000), Tyler Walker
(5th-$15,000), Greg Hodnett (6th-$12,000), Tim Shaffer (7th-$10,000),
Jac Haudenschild (8th-$9,000).
Joey Saldana completed the list of top ten finishers
for Team-Hoosier as he took tenth place and collected $8,000.
Jac Haudenschild opted to switch to the Hoosier brand
for the big money race and finished eighth. All told, 22 of the 24
race starters rode on Hoosier tires. The race paid $386,500 to the 24
race starters. Hoosier-shod drivers collected all but $15,000 of the
$386,500 payout.
At the conclusion of the weekend of racing,
Team-Hoosier pushed its win streak in the Pennzoil World of Outlaws
Series to 32 races without a defeat. In fact, the win streak spans
over a two month period as the series moves West.
The series resumes racing this Tuesday at Billings, MT
for a one-night show before traveling to Elma, WA for a two-night show
starting on Friday.
