BILLINGS,
MT (August 13) -- Fresh off his $125,000 victory at Knoxville on
Saturday, Steve Kinser and the Pennzoil World of Outlaws rolled into
MetraPark Motorsports Track Tuesday night for a one-night program.
When it was all over, Steve Kinser was once again in the winner's
circle. This 30-lapper was worth a little less than Saturday's huge
payout as Kinser pocketed $10,000 for the win. The event also featured
a field in which all but one of the competitors rode on Hoosier
tires.
Twenty cars were entered in qualifying with 19 of them
opting to run the Hoosier brand. Mark Kinser set fast time around the
1/2-mile track. Kinser's time was 18.069 seconds. Tim Shaffer and Joey
Saldana were second and third quick in qualifying. The top 12 times
were posted by drivers riding on Hoosier tires.
Both heat races were won by Hoosier-shod drivers.
Jason Meyers and Donny Schatz were the two heat race winners.
Both dash races were also won by Hoosier-shod drivers.
Steve Kinser won the first dash, while Tim Shaffer won the second. As
a result, the two would start on the front row for the night's final
race.
In the 30-lap feature, Steve Kinser led every lap from
his pole position to capture the win. The 'King of the Outlaws' used a
pair of Hoosier D15's to take the $10,000 win. Joey Saldana took
runner-up honors and collected $5,500. Saldana used a D12/RD15
combination in the feature. Craig Dollansky rounded out the top three
using the same compound combination as Saldana. The 1-2-3 Team-Hoosier
finish was the 50th of the season in 68 nights of racing.
All told, Team-Hoosier swept the top ten positions in
the feature. Danny Lasoski, Brad Furr, Mark Kinser, Daryn Pittman, Tim
Shaffer, Donny Schatz and Danny Wood finished fourth through tenth,
respectively.
Ironically, the current points standings mirror the
finish of the race. Steve Kinser is in first place in the standings
with 7390 points followed by Joey Saldana (7147), Craig Dollansky
(7114), and Danny Lasoski (7110) in second through fourth. Mark
Kinser, Tim Shaffer and Donny Schatz round out the
"all-Hoosier" top seven in the standings, while Brad Furr
stands just 34 points out of eighth place in the rankings for
Team-Hoosier. Randy Hannagan is in tenth place as Hoosier Racing Tire
Corp. lays claim to nine of the top ten positions in the Pennzoil
World of Outlaws Series standings.
The series resumes racing this Friday in Elma, WA
where the Outlaws will hold a two-night program at Grays Harbor
Raceway Park.
