ELMA,
WA (August 16-17) -- Mark Kinser won the preliminary at Grays Harbor
Raceway Park in Washington on Friday, while Tim Shaffer captured the
A-feature win on Saturday. Shaffer's win was his first of the season,
and for Kinser, it was his first feature win since May 3rd in
Greenwood, Nebraska. The two victories also extended
Team-Hoosier's win streak to 35 consecutive wins in Pennzoil World of
Outlaws competition--a span that covers over a two-month period.
PRELIMINARY NIGHT
ELMA, WA (August 16) -- Forty-one cars were entered in qualifying on
the opening night of action at Grays Harbor Raceway Park on Friday--39
of them on Hoosier tires. Mark Kinser was the fastest Hoosier-shod
qualifier, and second overall, with a time of 12.640 seconds around
the 3/10-mile oval. Brad Furr, Craig Dollansky, Steve Kinser and Roger
Cockett were third through sixth fastest for Team-Hoosier.
Joey Saldana, Mike Melwicks, Jim Carter and Donny
Schatz were each heat race winners. All four drivers compete on the
Hoosier brand.
Both dash races were also won by drivers on Hoosier
tires. Steve Kinser won the first dash, while Danny Lasoski won the
second.
Shawna Wilskey also won the B-feature on Hoosiers to
transfer into the feature.
In the 25-lap preliminary feature, Steve Kinser took
the early race lead over fellow dash winner Danny Lasoski. Kinser led
the first two circuits before giving way to Mark Kinser who had
started fourth. Kinser held off all challengers to take the $5,000
win. Kinser used a Hoosier RD12/D12 combination to post the opening
night win.
Steve Kinser took runner-up honors and pocketed
$3,000. Kinser used the same RD12/D12 combination as cousin Mark used
to capture the win.
Finishing fourth through tenth for Team-Hoosier were
Danny Lasoski, Brad Furr, Craig Dollansky, Daryn Pittman, Joey
Saldana, Randy Hannagan and Jason Meyers.
FINAL NIGHT
ALMA, WA (August 17) -- With the top four cars locked into the first
four starting spots in the dash, 35 cars were left to post times in
qualifying. Tim Shaffer and Joey Saldana set identical times of 12.203
seconds around the 3/10-mile track. Since Shaffer's time was the first
recorded, he claimed the fastest qualifier moniker.
For the second consecutive night, all four heat races
were again won by Hoosier-shod drivers. Tim Shaffer, Shawna Wilskey,
Toni Lutar and Jason Meyers each won their respective heats.
The final night had just one dash race which was won
by Mark Kinser. He was followed to the stripe by Steve Kinser and Tim
Shaffer in second and third.
In the marathon 40-lap A-feature, Steve Kinser jumped
out to the early race lead from his outside pole starting position.
The 16-time series champion held the lead until lap 11 when Tim
Shaffer took over the race lead. Shaffer led the remainder of the way
en route to his first A-feature win of the season. Shaffer used a
Hoosier D10/RD12 combination to pick up the $12,000 win.
Steve Kinser, for the second night in a row, settled
for second place. Kinser's opted for a slightly harder combination
than the race winner. Kinser used a Hoosier RD12/D12 set-up en route
to his $6,000 runner-up finish.
Other drivers using Hoosier tires who finished in the
top ten were Danny Lasoski (4th), Brad Furr (6th), Daryn Pittman
(7th), Joey Saldana (8th), P.J. Chesson (9th), Randy Hannagan (10th).
