CITY, CO (August 19) -- Picturesque Colorado was the latest location
for the members of O'Reilly World of Outlaws to invade. When the last
race was over, Team-Hoosier had chalked up another 1-2-3 finish in the
series with Donny Schatz leading the way. Schatz opted to run the
30-lap feature using a D15 compound as his left rear tire choice and a
D20 as his right rear choice. The combination was a popular one with
the first five drivers to cross the finish line selecting the same
combination. Schatz was followed to the finish line by Paul McMahan
and Steve Kinser for the 58th podium sweep of the season in 67 nights
of racing. It was Schatz's tenth win of the season--nine of them have
come on Hoosier tires since his early season switch.
Thirty-four cars were entered in qualifying with 32
drivers selecting the Hoosier brand to compete on, while the other two
tire brands were represented by a single driver each. Danny Lasoski
set fast time of the night with his 12.247 second lap around the Rocky
Mountain National Speedway 3/8-mile oval. He was followed by nine more
Hoosier-shod drivers atop the qualifying leader board. Lasoski was
followed by Daryn Pittman, Joey Saldana, Paul McMahan, Tim Shaffer,
Steve Kinser, Donny Schatz, Gary Taylor, Jason Meyers and Sammy
Swindell.
Travis Cram, Jason Sides, Rich Bubak and Paul McMahan
were the four heat race winners. All four race on USA-made Hoosier
tires.
Donny Schatz won the first Dash, while Steve Kinser
won the second Dash placing the two on the front row for the 30-lap
feature.
In the feature race, all but one of the 24 starters
rode on Hoosier tires. Donny Schatz took the lead from the drop of the
green flag and led every lap of the race to capture his tenth win of
the season. Schatz used a D15/D20 (left rear/right rear) combination
en route to the win as did the next four drivers to cross the finish
line.
Following Schatz to the line were Paul McMahan, Steve
Kinser, Danny Lasoski, Tim Shaffer, Daryn Pittman, Jason Meyers,
Travis Cram, Jason Sides and Johnny Herrera in second through tenth, respectively.
All told, the Hoosier brand was used by the first 13 cars to cross the
finish line. Sammy Swindell, Tim Kaeding and Randy Hannagan completed
the top-13 sweep for Team-Hoosier.
The series will be in action next at Grays Harbor
Raceway Park this Friday, August 22, in Elma, WA for two nights of
racing.
