COTTAGE GROVE, OR (August 26) -- Steve Kinser battled
Joey Saldana for 40 laps at Cottage Grove Speedway Tuesday night in
the O'Reilly World of Outlaws Series before winning by 2.1 seconds
over Saldana and Danny Lasoski. The three drivers each compete on
USA-made Hoosier tires. The finish was the 61st podium sweep of the
season for Team-Hoosier in 70 nights of racing. The Hoosier brand
has now won 66 of 70 races this season in sprint racing's premier
series for a 94% win percentage.
Thirty-two cars posted times in qualifying on the
1/4-mile Cottage Grove Speedway with 30 drivers selecting the Hoosier
brand. Danny Lasoski set fast time of the night when he circled the
track in 10.579 seconds. Lasoski was followed by Sammy Swindell, Jason
Sides, Roger Crockett, Steve Kinser and Joey Saldana. All six drivers
compete on Hoosier tires.
There were four heat races contested with three of
them won by Hoosier-shod drivers. Travis Cram won the first heat,
while Jac Haudenschild and Joey Saldana won the second and third
heats, respectively.
Both Dash races were won by drivers using Hoosier
tires with Steve Kinser winning the first Dash and Donny Schatz taking
the second Dash.
In the 40-lap feature, Steve Kinser jumped out to the
early lead from the pole position using a D12/RD15 (LR/RR)
combination. Kinser led until lap seven when sixth starting Joey
Saldana passed the defending series champion for the lead. Saldana,
using a Hoosier RD12/RD15 set up, led until lap 16, when the 17-time
champion moved back into the lead for good. At the line, Kinser was
followed by Joey Saldana, Danny Lasoski, Daryn Pittman and Sammy
Swindell. All five drivers competed on Hoosier tires.
Other top ten finishers on Hoosier tires were Donny
Schatz, Jason Meyers, Jac Haudenschild and Jason Sides in seventh
through tenth, respectively.
Steve Kinser currently leads the driver rankings in
the World of Outlaws Series with 8015 points--46 points ahead of Danny
Lasoski who has amassed 7969 points. Joey Saldana (7597), Daryn
Pittman (7495), Donny Schatz (7086), and Jason Sides (6981) round out
the top six in the standings. All six drivers compete on Hoosier
tires. Other Team-Hoosier drivers in the top ten are Paul McMahan,
Mark Kinser and Tim Shaffer in eighth, ninth and tenth place,
respectively.
The series will be back in action this Friday, August
29, for the beginning of the three-day Harvest Classic at California's
Calistoga Speedway.
