PITTMAN WINS FROM THIRD ON FINAL LAP
50TH STRAIGHT PODIUM FOR TEAM-HOOSIER

8-04-03

Daryn PittmanBEAVER DAM, WI (August 3) -- Daryn Pittman followed up his Thursday night win at K-C Raceway with a final-lap, come from behind, win Sunday night at Wisconsin's Powercom Park Raceway passing both Steve Kinser and Jason Sides on the final circuit en route to collecting his third win of the season. Pittman was followed to the finish line by Jason Sides and Steve Kinser giving Team-Hoosier its 50th consecutive 1-2-3 finish of the season in the O'Reilly World of Outlaws Series. The series will now travel from Wisconsin to Michigan's Hartford Speedway Park for a race on Wednesday night which allows Hoosier Track Service Manager Todd Seitz to return to Hoosier headquarters to restock the Outlaws trailer before rejoining the traveling circuit.

Forty-four cars were entered in qualifying with 43 posting times. There were 27 drivers using Hoosier tires, while 17 drivers opted to trust one of the other two competing tire brands. Paul McMahan set fast time of the night with a lap of 11.646 seconds around the 1/2-mile clay oval. McMahan was followed by Daryn Pittman, Steve Kinser, Jason Sides and Danny Lasoski. The top five times in qualifying were established by racers using Hoosier tires.

Kurt Davis, Scott Neitzel and Steve Kinser were the three heat race winners using Hoosiers.

Both Dash winners were also members of Team-Hoosier. Steve Kinser won the first Dash, while Jason Sides won the final Dash.

In the 35-lap feature, 19 of the 24 starters rode on Hoosier tires with the remaining five drivers split among the other two competing tire brands. Steve Kinser, using a 94" Hoosier D12/RD15 (LR/RR) combination, took the early race lead from the pole. Kinser, at one point, had a 10 car length lead over second running Jason Sides. But lapped traffic slowed the 17-time series champion allowing Sides and his 92" RD12/RD15 set-up, to erase "The King's" advantage. On lap 32, Daryn Pittman, using a 94" RD12/D15 combination, passed Jason Meyers for third while Kinser and Sides battled it out for the lead. On lap 34, Sides passed Kinser for the lead with just one lap to go. On the final lap, Daryn Pittman went low to pass Kinser in the second turn and then set sight on Sides and the win. Once again going low in turns three and four, Pittman moved alongside the race leader. The two made contact sending both young drivers sliding sideways across the finish line with Pittman taking the win while sliding to a stop in the infield as the checkered flag fell.

Jason Sides, looking for his first series win, settled for second place, while Steve Kinser finished in third. Donny Schatz, Jason Meyers, Danny Lasoski, Joey Saldana, Scott Neitzel, John Haeni and Kim Mock finished fourth through tenth, respectively. All ten drivers used the Hoosier brand in achieving their top-ten finish.

Hoosier Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager Neil Cowman commented about the historic finish, "We're extremely pleased the Hoosier tires performed so well last night. The 50 consecutive podium sweeps for Hoosier is quite an accomplishment, its something our company has never before achieved and all the members of Team-Hoosier can be proud of this accomplishment. It really was a team effort."

Danny Lasoski and Steve Kinser continue their year-long battle for supremacy in the driver standings with Kinser passing Lasoski for the lead while Joey Saldana, Daryn Pittman, Donny Schatz and Jason Sides round out the top six in the rankings. All six drivers race on USA-made Hoosier tires.

The 1-2-3 finish by Hoosier-shod drivers was the 50th consecutive podium sweep this year, and 52nd overall, in 59 nights of racing. The Hoosier tire brand has now won 57 of 59 races in the O'Reilly World of Outlaws Series this season.
