CHICO,
CA (September 8) -- After two preliminary nights of competition at
Silver Dollar Speedway in California, Mark Kinser was this year's
winner of the Pennzoil World of Outlaws' Gold Cup Race of Champions.
The victory was worth $25,000 to the current series points leader and
was accomplished while riding aboard USA-made Hoosier tires. In fact,
Team Hoosier placed six drivers on the list of top ten finishers after
the checkered flag dropped on the 40-lap event.
On Thursday and Friday night, over 90% of the competitors were
Team Hoosier members as 84 of the 93 cars selected the purple tire
brand as their "brand of choice".
In Saturday's finale, Mark Kinser, riding a Hoosier D10/D12
combination, jumped into the lead over outside pole sitter, Jeff
Shepard, to lead the tenth circuit after starting third. Kinser would
lead 24 of the race's final 31 laps to take the win and collect the
$25,000 top prize. A total of six Team Hoosier drivers recorded a
top ten finish. Danny Lasoski came home in third after starting sixth.
Lasoski elected to ride on a pair of Hoosier D10's for the 40-lap
event. The choice was worth $5,500 to the driver of the Tony Stewart
owned #20L. Brent Kaeding wound up sixth, while Joey Saldana, Kasey
Kahne and defending Pennzoil World of Outlaws champion, Steve Kinser,
finished eighth through tenth respectively for Team Hoosier.
Amazingly, Kinser started 23rd in the starting grid and managed to
post a top ten finish while on a Hoosier D10/D12 combination. Team
Hoosier drivers continue to hold the top three spots in the Pennzoil
World of Outlaws season long points battle, as Mark Kinser remains in
first place with 8267 points followed closely by Danny Lasoski with
8244 points. Steve Kinser remains in third place with 8073
points. In fact, Team Hoosier holds four of the top five
positions in the standings and six of the top ten. Craig Dollansky is
in fifth, Joey Saldana is in eighth and Andy Hillenburg is in tenth
place. Next up for the series is a two-night show in Texas, at
Texas Motor Speedway on Friday and Saturday, for the Second Annual
O'Reilly Texas Showdown. Friday's race will be taped and broadcast
Sunday afternoon on TNN. |
