SARVER,
PA (September 25) -- Danny Wood captured his 1st ever A-main win in
Pennzoil World of Outlaws competition on a cold and damp night at
Lernerville Speedway on Tuesday. The Norman, Oklahoma native and
driver of the Pepsi #21W had won two A-feature events earlier in 2001,
but both were preliminary victories. Wood also capped a perfect night
for Team Hoosier as well. Hoosier-shod cars dominated once again, by
not only posting fast time in qualifying, but followed that up by
winning all three heat races, the Dash, the B-feature and finally the
35-lap A-main which completed the night of perfection.
The evening began with 29 sprinters entered to post qualifying
times, 16 of them electing to ride aboard the Hoosier brand. Fast time
of the night was set by Hoosier-shod Mark Kinser after he turned a lap
in 13.026 seconds around the 1/2-mile clay oval. The relatively
small car count required running only three preliminary 8-lap O'Reilly
heat races. Danny Wood, Danny Lasoski and Johnny Herrera each won
their respective heats on the Hoosier brand. The odds seemed to be
stacked against Team Hoosier in the Channellock Dash with just four of
the ten drivers on Hoosiers. Amazingly, the four Hoosier-shod cars
swept the top four finishing positions when the checkered flag dropped
on the 8-lap Dash. Craig Dollansky captured the 12-lap
B-feature race which kept Team Hoosier's night unblemished. The
35-lap A-main would have Hoosier-shod cars filling the first two rows
of the starting grid. Johnny Herrera jumped out to the early lead from
his pole position riding atop Hoosier's softest tire combination, a
pair of D10's. Herrera led until lap 16, when Danny Wood, also on a
pair of Hoosier D10's made the pass to take over the race lead. Danny
Lasoski, also electing to go with a pair of Hoosier D10's, tried a
last lap pass of Wood but it wasn't enough to deny Danny Wood his
first A-main win. Lasoski finished in second, his third straight
runner-up finish. Lasoski was followed by Johnny Herrera in third and
Mark Kinser in fourth for a clean sweep of the top four for Team
Hoosier. Hoosier sprint tire product manager, Neil Cowman commented
after the event, "Danny Wood is such a nice guy and a great
representative of the sport of racing, I'm really happy for him and
his entire team." Cowman will be traveling to
Pennsylvania to watch Thursday night's Port Royal race and then
traveling to both events at Williams Grove in an effort to evaluate
product performance, particularly the newly introduced RD12 compound
for red dirt surfaces. Danny Lasoski (8615) is now just 24
points out of first place behind Mark Kinser (8639). Steve Kinser is
solidly in third place with 8364 points, as Hoosier-shod drivers
command the elite series' top three spots. Pennzoil World of Outlaws
racing resumes Thursday night at Port Royal Speedway, where Team
Hoosier, having won the last five events, looks to extend that streak
to six. |
