IPSWICH,
SUFFOLK (ENGLAND) -- The Hoosier brand continues its push to become a
force internationally through efforts of their International
Distributors. Hoosier Tire UK reports they have been extremely busy
and well received by the racing enthusiasts in their part of the
world.
Hoosier Tire UK reported an extremely successful
weekend of racing with the National Hot Rod and 2.0 Hot Rod World
Finals that were run at Foxhall Stadium, Ipswich, Suffolk (England) on
July 5th and 6th. A huge crowd packed the 1/4-mile asphalt oval to
witness 35 races over two days of spectacular racing.
Hoosier tires were represented as the spec tire on
three of the competing formulas--Superstox, 2.0 Hot Rods and National
Hot Rods. There were heat races during the day on Saturday to
determine the grid positions for the 2.0 Hot Rod World Final which was
the main event on the Saturday night schedule.
WORLD FINAL
Thirty-six cars took to the grid for the World Final race. All the
cars ran Hoosier's 22.5x7.0-13 TD's on the outside of the car and
Hoosier A70x13's on the inside. Unfortunately, an enormous crash on
the first lap ended the hopes of several of the front runners. On the
restart, pole-sitter Kevin Randell led the field away driving an
almost faultless race from flag to flag--despite being under pressure
for much of the race from Dave Longhurst. Longhurst has won the title
several times before and was a favorite to take the crown again. But
it was not to be with Kevin Randell taking a well deserved and popular
victory.
NATIONAL HOT ROD WORLD FINAL
The National Hot Rod World Final took place on the Sunday afternoon.
This race has been held at Ipswich on the same weekend every year
since 1971. National Hot Rods compete in a grueling, year-long,
qualifying campaign which culminates in the 75-lap World Final--the
longest race on the calendar.
Sunday morning dawned wet and the drivers unsure
whether to run the Hoosier 20.0x9.0-13 H12 slick or the Hoosier
20.0x9.0-13 H10 WET. The World Final was the first race of the day. By
then, the track had dried sufficiently to allow the slick to be used
although there were still some damp patches on the circuit.
The race got under way and within 5 laps, England's
Dave Longhurst (shown on the right in the photo) had charged from his
fourth place starting spot to take the race lead. Despite encountering
heavy traffic, Dave lapped most of the field and went on to take the victory by half a lap. It was a popular win with both drivers and fans
alike. Finishing in second place was Carl Boardley who also hails from
England. Rounding out third through tenth was Wayne Woolsey (Northern
Ireland), Gary Woolsey (Northern Ireland), Chris Haird (England), Andy
Steward (England), Keith Martin (Northern Ireland), Shane Brereton
(England), Tom Casey (Republic of Ireland), and Dick Hillard
(England). www.nationalhotrod.com
