LAKEVILLE,
IN -- The Wolverine Outlaw Winged Midget Series (WOWMS) voted to switch to
Hoosier tires beginning with the 2006 season. The multi-year deal will have the
series competing on the same tires that will be used in the weekly USAC
Regional Series.
The WOWMS was established to provide economical racing that offers driver
development for major league motorsports. The primary focus of the series is to
set specific rules to maintain control of operating expenses for its participants.
Hoosier has built "spec tires" for thousands of different racing
venues around the globe, while WOWMS's goal is to have a tire that lasts a
minimum of four races and has very little performance difference between used
and new tires. As a result, a perfect match was formed.
The WOWMS races predominantly on 3/8-mile tracks, but also races on 1/4-mile
and 1/2-mile asphalt tracks in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.
Nick Mitchell was the 2005 champion in the series. The 25-year-old driver
had two wins and five top five finishes during the season en route to amassing
1610 driver points. Chris Hettinger was runner-up in the final rankings with
1530 markers followed by Gary Harrell (1517), Ike Beasley (1485), and Derek
Snyder (1367).
Hoosier's Manager of Contract Sales, Irish Saunders, commented, "The
Wolverine Outlaw Winged Midget Series has all the right ideas for containing
the cost of racing for its members and Hoosier is extremely pleased to have
been selected by the entire WOWMS organization to join them in this
effort."
The tires will be supplied by Don Kenyon through Hoosier Tire
Midwest-Indy.
Tires used in the series will include the following sizes/compounds:
