VEGAS, NV (October 12)-- Scott Lynch captured his first-ever NASCAR
Winston West Series victory winning The Orleans 150, at Las Vegas
Motor Speedway on Saturday. Lynch, making only his 11th start in the
series, took the race lead from Eric Norris on lap 84 of 100, en route
to the win. Eric Norris finished in second place in the final race of
the season and secured the NASCAR Winston West Series championship for
2002.
Twenty-seven cars started the race with Brendan
Gaughan and Eddy McKean on the pole. The race was decided on lap 84
when Lynch passed Norris and held on to capture his first-ever win in
the series. Lynch earned $11,350 for the win. Norris pocketed $7,360
for his runner-up finish. Brett Thompson rounded out the top three.
Third place was worth $5,648. Jason Small and Brandon Ash rounded out
the top five.
Going into the event, Austin Cameron was trailing
Norris in the points standings by just 36 points. Cameron finished a
disappointing 25th after developing an oil leak.
Eric Norris claims the 2002 NASCAR Winston West Series
championship with Kevin Richards taking the runner-up spot. Austin
Cameron rounds out the top three in the standings. Johnny Borneman and
Mike Duncan round out the top five.
Attending the race was Hoosier's Vice President of
Marketing Dennis Sherman and Sales Manager Paul Menting.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. was the sole provider of
tires to the NASCAR Winston West Series for the 2002 racing
season.
